Selena Gomez doesn't like being seen as a "good girl" and says she has a "sense of bipolar-ness".
Despite her character often being mean, Selena's image is squeaky clean.
She said: "The biggest thing that bothers me about that is I never said I wanted to be the good girl.
"I just wanted to be known for my work. I love my work, my fans. It does bother me that I am being put in that corner."
Said to be dating Justin Bieber and the target of his jealous fans, topped with being one of the biggest young stars on the planet, is leading Selena to a pretty crazy life.
She said: "I am sure I have some sense of bipolar-ness. I wake up happy then I turn to sadness on a dime. It's crazy but I do enjoy all of it right now."
However, she still won't talk about her relationship with Justin.
Selena would only say: "I do think that Justin is a great performer, he really is."
The Baby singer had better be good. Selena has admitted she'd love to work with jazz pianist Jason Moran.
She said: "I think he is so talented. I have a crush on him, I think."
While she hasn't matched Justin's success in music, she is about to release her third album as part of Selena Gomez & The Scene and a 'I new single Who Says can be downloaded from May 15.
She put the single out early after some biting comments about her and Justin.
She said: "This song says people will always try to cut you down. Don't let people do that to you. It's not a sad song. It's upbeat."
It's brave for Selena to admit that, given she's part of Disney's plastic perfect world and a role model for millions of young girls.
But then when they come up and say they want to be famous and be like her, she tries to steer them into less choppy waters.
She said: "I tell them, 'Don't do it just to be famous. You have to love what you want to do.'
"There will be a lot of rejection and you have to be ready for it.
" I am at a very happy place in my career. But I still get turned down at times.
"You have no choice, you have to keep going."
Her mum has helped her through the dark times. Selena is no tough cookie.
She said: "My mum pushes me to be tougher. I don't know what I'd do without her. She's the driving force behind my success."
Selena's new album follows 2009's Kiss & Tell and last year's A Year Without Rain and includes a Britney Spears-penned tune Whiplash.
There have been claims Britney wrote the song for Selena but she said: "She wrote the song for herself and never put it on her record. I heard it and I loved it then I recorded it."
As well as the new music, Selena has a film out in August called Monte Carlo which also stars Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester.
No wonder she's frazzled.
She said: "It's tough at times. I do everything when I feel like it. That's how these two careers came about.
"I do need a break. My life is so stressful as it is right now."
